HISTORY IN THE MAKING!

2009 IBC Annual Meeting...  by Skip Hansen, IBC Director of Transition

Skip Hansen, Director of TransitionEvery Annual Meeting is important!  It is your single opportunity each year to greet one another face-to-face, to test the Spirit within, and to encourage one another by recommitment to the mission God has given you together!
That's every year.

But THIS year is even more important.  In fact, the commitments you will make this year are so important (on so many levels)... that the State of Iowa demands you follow a series of steps in order to make such commitments.  In other words, history is about to be written... and you can have a part of it!

This year's annual meeting will be held in THREE SESSIONS

  1. The FIRST SESSION will be held in less than two weeks.  At this session you will meet Dan Carlson, the District Executive Minister of the Minnesota Baptist Conference.  You will meet Paul Floyd, the legal counselor providing vital guidance to the process.  And you will meet Jon Wicklund, the Director of the Trout Lake Camps.

Even though many meetings have already taken place across Iowa, it remains crucial for you to listen to the hearts and minds of these men on this day.  For what you will hear as you are guided by The Spirit will form the basis of your "heart" decision... to either affirm or deny your inner desire to move forward toward a merger with the Minnesota Baptist Conference.

  2. If your decision in May is affirmative, the annual meeting will be continued by a SECOND SESSION scheduled in November.  At this session, you will vote on the detailed Plan of Merger.  Without this "official" decision on the part of the membership, the merger cannot happen.
  3. And finally, if the members' November vote is affirmative, the law requires a 90 day "waiting period"... and a final confirmation made at a FINAL SESSION of the annual meeting (held in February.)  At that time... and only at that time... will the merger become official and complete!

Yes, history is being made in Iowa... and Minnesota!   And it will be your faithful participation in the process that will be crucial to the completion of the process.

As for me, following our May meeting, the final paragraph of my role in IBC history will be written... and I will be gone.  I will be following the Lord's call to return to the pastorate in a small town in northern Minnesota.  As for you, I am confident that your continuing participation in this historic event will Magnify our great and glorious God, and bring you great personal joy!
IOWA CHURCH PLANT UPDATE
by Pastor Carlton Anderson, IBC Director of Church Planting

Pastor Carlton Anderson, The River's Edge, Iowa Falls

How exciting that God is keeping the church plant kettle simmering on the front burner here in Iowa!

On Easter Sunday, River's Edge had 161 in attendance (a new record high).  Ironridge in Waukon had 196, and Daybreak in Des Moines had 213!

Just those three plants represent close to 600 people attending churches that did not exist 4 years ago!  600 souls impacted because of people like you with a vision to be and bring Jesus to them!

[Converge Iowa City (Genesis and The River) reported a combined service of 225, plus... 4 baptisms--2 from each church.]

Keep each of these communities and planters in prayer as God continues to direct us.  Pray for clear vision for the planters, and courage for us who are coming alongside of the calling of the Spirit!
